Traditionally used to mend textiles, sashiko can just as easily be used to embellish clothing and fabrics around the home. Requiring no special equipment other than a sewing needle and thread, it is a centuries-old embroidery technique that not only strengthens but intricately adorns fabric, bringing it new life.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eIn feudal Japan, when clothing was made completely from scratch – the raw materials grown, the fiber spun, the fabric woven and dyed, and the articles of clothing sewn together by hand – it was important to make every piece last for as long as possible, even over generations. So, each item would evolve over time – a formal dress would eventually become an everyday dress, then a bed cover, then someday a dust rag. The most heavily patched items would become boro (meaning tattered) but ironically, vintage boro jackets are now highly prized and extremely rare!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eToday, we have access to fast fashion, but at what cost?
