Each student get a total of 6 mini skeins (1.65 oz/50g) of local churro wool from Spring Coyote Ranch, plus an instructional craft-book.

Students should bring the following supplies:

  • Apron if you want to protect your clothes
  • Gloves if you want to protect your hands

Curious about fungi? Have a love of fiber?  Combine your interests and learn how to use mushrooms to create beautiful, vibrant, and nontoxic dyes perfect for any natural fiber.

Artist and flower farmer, and mycophile, Julie Beeler from Bloom & Dye and creator of the Mushroom Color Atlas, will teach participants how to unlock the ‘tinctoria’ of three different, commonly found West Coast dye mushrooms. Students will dye a total of 6 mini skeins of locally raised  Spring Coyote Ranch churro wool that can be used in a variety of projects from fingerless gloves to a cowl.

In class we will cover general mushroom dye techniques, types of mushrooms and walk through the process of making dye baths and dyeing the fiber. We will wrap up the class making a lake pigment with the dye baths and setting it up to strain, rinse and dry. The instructional craft-book will allow everyone to continue their exploration in more depth at their own pace.

Ages: 18+
Skill Requirements: No previous experience necessary, though a fantastic workshop for practicing dyers.
Taught by: Julie Beeler
