DETAILS
Welcome to the land of inkle weaving!
Annie MacHale, a weaver based in New Mexico, will be making a special trip to the studio to share her incredible inkle weaving knowledge! She has recently published two wonderful books on color and design for the inkle loom! Books will be available to purchase directly from her in class. Please bring cash or check.
In this workshop, students will learn the techniques and artistry of inkle weaving. Annie will share advice from her more than four decades as an inkle loom weaver.
Students will have the opportunity to look at samples and graphic aids, which they can use to learn about the design elements in warp-faced weaving. They will learn how to choose and use color combinations to make beautiful and unique designs. They will also learn methods of creating patterns using a free online tool and a chart-paper method.
They will then warp and weave the designs they create.
Annie will share her tips for warping, making heddles, fixing mistakes, starting and stopping, and keeping selvages straight. She will also demonstrate how to temporarily remove and replace the warp, cut the final project off the loom, and handle it when it is complete.
Finished bands are used as belts, bag or guitar straps, hat bands, keychains and more!
Ages: 12+
