Quarterly Dyer Spotlight

The yarn world is abundant with hand dyed yarns and we admittedly want them all! In an effort to support multiple indie dyers and bring a diversity of color pallets, yarn bases and fiber contents to our community, we're hosting Quarterly Dyer Spotlights.

Each quarter we will launch a new dyer! While we plan to highlight each dyer for the entire quarter, we will only be getting one large shipment at the beginning of the quarter so the earlier you come, the more options there'll be!

APRIL

We are so thrilled to announce that our first Quarterly Dyer Spotlight will feature the fabulous yarns from Adella Colvin, the dyer behind LolaBean Yarn Co.!

We have put together a curated selection of 3 of her popular bases in a color palette that evokes the essence of Spring:

Pinto Bean (DK weight in superwash Merino);
Bean Sprout (fingering weight in a superwash Merino/nylon blend);
Bean Soup (lace weight in a Suri alpaca/silk blend).

Adella's colors are so vibrant and full of life and we hope you'll feel inspired when you see them.

A Bit More About Adella Colvin

Twelve years ago, Adella moved from New York City to Augusta, Georgia and found herself alone in an unfamiliar town after her husband was sent to Afghanistan for a year.  One day, a friendly neighbor invited Adella over for coffee.  She soon discovered her neighbor was an avid crocheter and maker of many things.  This led to her introduction to the world of fiber arts when that neighbor gave her her first ball of yarn, and the rest is history!

The catalyst for dyeing her own yarns came from the lack of yarn shops in her own community and the discrimination she faced, as a woman of color living in the American South, at the few local yarn shops she could find.

Adella draws her inspiration from her rich life experiences, and from her love of music and films. Having lived in many parts of the US as an Air Force "military brat", she was exposed to a variety of cultures. In particular, different genres of music - hip hop, rock, Latin jazz, salsa, pop, country, reggae, and RnB all greatly influence her work as an indie dyer.
