DETAILS

The Rigid Heddle Loom is portable and affordable. It’s a great tool for exploring weaving, using up your stash, and trying something new.

Join Sonoma County's professional artist and instructor, Marta Shannon, for a 2 session in person class to learn the basics of setting up your Rigid Heddle loom and how to weave your very own handwoven scarf.

Day one will focus on design, calculations, carefully warping your loom, and finally weaving. You'll then work on your project at home before returning the following day for finishing.

Day two will focus on taking your scarf off your loom and finishing techniques.

NOTE: We have a limited number of looms to rent, so please be sure to select the appropriate option at check out!! If you need to purchase a loom, please call or come in to the shop, or you may purchase online for pick up. If you are renting a loom, looms are due back at the end of the 2nd session. Any additional time needed on the loom is $20/week.

Yarn is NOT included so that students can choose a yarn specific for their project!

For warp and weft materials you will need at least 2 different colors...
- If your heddle is an 8 dent heddle,160-175 yards of worsted weight yarn for your warp and 120 yards for your weft.
- If your heddle is a 10 dent heddle, 200-225 yards of a dk / sport weight yarn for warp and 150 yards for weft.

Cotton or wool or blends work best. Check your yarn for strength by gently tugging on a 24" length or so. If it doesn't fall apart it is probably strong enough. Also run your finger nail on it to be sure it holds up to abrasion.
